The reservoir will be located 4.5 miles north of Milan and will cover a drainage area of 32.8 sq. miles (21,000 acres). The lake area will be from 2,235 acres to 2,512 acres (flood area) with 78 acres of shoreline. The project dates back to 1987 and was designed to provide a water supply for the region. The project requires acquisition of property to allow for the reservoir, plus additional land up to 100 feet from the shoreline. The Commission has stated that is desires to acquire property through negotiation, but will use eminent domain, if necessary to assemble all property.
